Mark Harmer

Mark lives in Gloucestershire and specialises in the folk music of Ireland, England and Wales.
On Thursday evening he will be taking us back to the 1700s, and the music of O'Carolan, an Irish harper who spent his life touring the houses of Ireland and playing the harp in return for food and lodging. Carolan often played his music last thing at night, before everyone retired to bed, and Mark will introduce and play his arrangements of Carolan's atmospheric music last thing on Thursday night. You are warmly invited to come along and enjoy these magical harp pieces and the stories that surround them. This promises to be a wonderful concert and the perfect way of leaving our preoccupations behind and gently relaxing into the spirit of the Summer Gathering.

Don Conreaux - Mysterious Tremendum Reunion Concert
www.donconreaux.com
"This year we are celebrating our 16th year of performances in the U.K. with the Improvisational Concept of Mysterious Tremendum going back to 1996 when we did our first one at Gaunt's House. This year we will invite the musicians that have appeared with us in the past plus added electronics for trance dancing."
Don describes Mysterious Tremendum as "a collage of culture - the bringing together of instruments from around the world that give out living tones that are organic. With this type of music, nothing is ever the same. It answers some sort of primal DNA urge for the roots that go way beyond lifetimes. Mysterious Tremendum is not beautiful in the same sense that violin music is beautiful, it is more accurately a force of energy, like a divine engine, affecting the body's meridians. By and large after it is over you just feel great. You feel like you have been healed by the spirit of nature and the wonderful thing about it is that the instruments heal the player while the player is playing the instrument."

ShekinAshram
www.shekinashram.org/
Bhakti Yoga is a beautiful path. It effortlessly purifies the mind and opens the heart. It is also deeply satisfying as a practise and highly contagious. Whilst Bhakti is primarily an internal practise, it is also an amazing way of unifying with others. Spending time in group practise such as praying, chanting, singing, playing sweet and rousing music together often evokes transcendental states of consciousness. ShekinAshram will be demonstrating their practice while inviting vistors to join in.
